Right guise,

We have come up for an idea to increase physics performance and reduce lag. This is designed to prevent physics from crashing when huge cuboids are performed especially when dealing with active water/lava etc. It should also improve stability during gun fights etc. However it will not stop connection problems or stop the server crashing completely as some of these problems come from minecraft itself, so there isnt much we can do about it.

Anyways the idea is to move the server onto my personal machine which is about 8 times more powerful than the server. However the downside is we can only have it running on my machine during the day, so there would be about 10 minutes downtime on the server during the morning and 10 minutes at night. These wouldnt be random, i.e either myself or zion will join the server to announce the change over and provided it proves popular and we decide to keep doing it we will make a schedule of when the change over will occur.

This will only happen however if the majority of the our community wants it to, so we need replies here people.

I'm all for it however i feel like the downtimes should be posted, perhaps on an mb at the spawn, or on the forum so anyone joining can memorize when they can't go on.

If you're moving it onto your personal machine, wouldn't that make you be unable to play very well? Or are you just planning to use the other computer.

I think it's a great idea, 10 minutes of downtime isn't that bad, especially when announced.
You definately have my support.

Im at work most of the day so it wouldnt be much of an issue, and if i did want to use it for gaming, i can dedicate 2-4 cores towards running minecraft and the remainder towards running games which should be more than enough especially since my CPU is water cooled and easily overclocked. Hopefully in the future we'll be able to run Hawkserv using GPUs rather than CPUs something zion is working on currently, in which case it'll be even less of an issue since ill just be able to dedicate one of my Graphics cards to it.

Sounds good, as long as it kills lag.

It wont kill any lag to do with your computer or internet connection, but you should still see a difference although you wont know how much until we actually trial it.
