Maybe we could get a vent server up and running so active players could chat with each other while playing?

We won't be having a Ventrilo server, if anything it'll be TeamSpeak 3, in which i will write a tutorial on how to connect and use it. However unless popular demand goes through this won't be for some time.

Ive tried TeamSpeak...I was impressed, and yes I advise a manual. I would be unable to use it however as per parental restrictions >.<

This has been tried and tested, and due to it not being popular at all, I stopped the service.

Maybe if more people actually use it, i'll consider relaunching it.

What about Skype? It doesn't require a server, and all you need to do is set up a permanently running "call" that anyone can join at any time.

Uses a vast amount of network resouces though, and it'sa bit 'heavy' to just be used as a voip server.

I'd prefer if the TeamSpeak would get running again, I get tired of all the typing in the chat to other people...

We already have a Mumble server, however it's not often used, so only up on demand.

I tried getting on the mumble server before :p didn't work
But could you put the teamspeak client up again and if it works out over the week would you consider keeping it up there?

With any VoIP server active, you'll find that it'll only be you in there. Plus, it would be the Mumble server due to it weighing lighter than a Teamspeak server. :3

Mumble is running on the server, you can connect to that via the mumble topic in these forums. (Admins: If it's not running, launch 'MurMur' from the start menu in Conroe)

Bump. So I asked around on SMP about if people would use the mumble server if it was up. The responses were pretty much all use skype but would be willing to use mumble if there was a reason. The problem though with skype is that it uses a ton of resources ~121,000 kb when not on a call and upwards to about 200,000 kb when on a call. Mumble uses 12,000 kb when idle I don't know how much it uses when connected to a server but I imagine it wouldn't be much.

People also don't really want to download another VOIP service.
The problem with using skype is not only the memory issues but also that people can't join the call whenever they want which would make it hard for people to use since they'd need someone to add them to the call. Skype also has very little administration possibilities since anyone can add anyone to the call once they are part of it.

I'm guessing more people would use the service if they were aware of it being up.
