Hello! As you may know, recently, because of the Ice instead of normal water, Block Harvesting/Griefing has increased... I also think, that because Hawknet is called FREEBUILD, it should be Freebuild, no themes should be applied. I am not a big fan of these Themed maps (Especially the Winter one) and I'd like the old grassy land to come back to the world of Guest, and other worlds that have changed into the Winter Theme.

Thanks

Glass can always be removed so it's less laggy if you really want (even though i'm not seeing how it causes lag). And, it is also up to the op that resets the map on whether or not they want it to be winter.

I disagree with xerox because, in my opinion, the themed maps make building fun. I sometimes get tired of the plain grass, and dirt. Even with the themed maps, it still makes it a freebuild, because they can build freely.

You have to understand, this was a decision made by the community here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=946

I can understand you not liking the winter map, but by all means, you can change everything but the white wool (snow). Just make sure to save it as "winter2" so you don't overwrite the current map.

Another thing we could do is have a few different winter maps, that way they don't get boring like the original map did. We could have a map with a snowman, a map with a christmas tree, a map with a giant santa, a map with a reindeer, etc. (All saved in numerical order so its easy to remember).

edit: I type slow :p I agree with you 100% ammar, zion actually said something similar in the topic i mentioned above.

I do understand the glass removal. But as ammar said, it is still a freebuild and they are allowed to build what and where they want. The themed maps just add variety and encourage people to build in that theme. If someone really hated the white ground they could always have someone replace it for them. Also only the winter themed maps have the white ground. The only change in the other 3 seasons is spawn and possibly an object in the map (Like the pumpkin). So I have to disagree.

The point could also be made with the normal map. What if someone doesn't like the grass? What do they do? They replace it with something else. So in that same manner if someone didn't like the white they could make some grass.

It is a freebuild server, it doesn't matter what color the ground is, or how the spawn looks, and no amount of glass will stop people from building, or make them lag (trust me, i ran tests).

The new Christmas one makes me lag. I don't mind the snowman but I personally prefer the grass a lot more. Less lag and I'm really used to it.
I think we should just maybe add a new guest map maybe that is only grass? Just so we can keep themed guest maps and also have the grass maps for people who personally prefer it.

Are you saying we should have some kind of vote before we reset the map? I'm fine with that, but it really defeats the purpose of having themed maps in the first place.

I personally like logging in and finding themed builds everywhere, as opposed to the mess of random builds we had with the grass map. It makes our server more appealing to new players when they join a neat, clean server with themed maps for each season.

Belgeran also makes a good point, if someone doesn't like the white ground, they can replace it with the block of their choice.

And I really wish someone would explain to me how white wool and glass makes you lag, i just can't comprehend it. I did remove the glass earlier, and i had no visible slow down, its possible i might have gained 1-3 fps, but its really hard to test this kind of thing on minecraft. I would try changing white wool to grass and see if there is a difference, but techy crashed the server again.

I don't see a difference either way. The votes are pointing towards the "agree" option. Why don't we try and make a reasonable comprimise? It would take some thinking about but I'm sure something can be thought of the get the better of both sides here.

Waffle is right, and i have a great idea, but I'd like to test it beforehand. Unfortunately the server is down, so i'll have to wait a few hours :x

I did write a solution -.-
How about we just add 2 guest maps, 1 is themed and 1 is grass.
And to make a proper analysis on the lag, you would have to test it on multiple computers with different internet providers, routers and internet plans.

And i told you why i didn't like the idea

And i thought you meant fps lag, but as it turns out, its even more ridiculous than i originally thought. How would wool and glass make you lag? They aren't even active blocks. I mean if nothing else, dirt would make you lag more because the server eventually changes it to grass. Someone really needs to explain this to me, because apparently I'm just an idiot.

Come on, am i crazy here?

Alright, lets make this simple, I'm too tired to go on...

Is this the kind of lag your getting http://lmgtfy.com/?q=fps+lag ?

Or is it this kind of lag your getting http://lmgtfy.com/?q=network+lag ?

Either way, i still don't see how wool and glass would cause any more lag than a grass map.

Adding 2 maps for guest just over a themed map is a bit much. Different blocks don't cause different amounts of lag (except active blocks). The only thing that i see could need fixing and not due to lag is removing the glass because so many people delete it to get in the water then ops are spammed with abuse reports on glass issues.

Also, if you added two guest maps that means two maps an op has to look over.

Well I don't know exactly what causes the lag but it really does make my wom go slow and I have to turn fog up so I can play normally.
I really don't see an op having to go visit another guest map really worth debating about however all it takes is 1 call from a guest+ about grief to be sure. Ops can even check once every 30 minutes on the guest maps because there really is no timer where the op must check because everything gets undone anyways despite if grief was done over a day ago.

I'm not completely fond of Game Booster but an extra guest map would stop the arguing and let you freebuild. Some people feel that they are restricted to what they build because of the theme and I can screenshot guests asking if you want.

What are those programs you speak of, Haza? XD

I think us with our 1,000+ FPS when looking at a super complex build don't need no programs to "boost fps".

Also, another protip on boosting game fps. If your minecraft appears 'grided' (thin line around each and every block) you most likely have anti aliasing on (probably forced by the drivers). This makes your graphics card work twice, four times, eight times or sixteen times harder since it has to render two/four/eight/sixteen copies of what you see, and offset each frame slightly. Anti Aliasing on low end cards seriously hampers performance, plus it makes Minecraft look bad due to it's specifically 'sharp' edges around its models.

You can turn off Anti Aliasing in your driver's configuration control panel.
Nvidia Control Panel
Catalyst Control Centre (ATI/AMD)

But the point is, the server is Freebuild, that means there's no theme in building anything. We do currently have a theme, and I dont think Themes go well with Freebuild...

The people building are not forced to build in the theme. It just encourages them. If they don't like the theme all they have to do is simply ask someone to change it to grass.

That' what were doing hardscope lol. Xerox is asking if we change it back to grass but I just think that adding another guest map with no theme is a good idea.

+ with a screenshot i took today shows that guests don't care about the theme. Out of a full map there were no themed builds. So, in all reality it is the regulars that think that theme forces themed builds.

You can make a message block that says: Type /g guest2 for a guestmap with no theme.

Alright so the voting process points towards keeping the themes. I agree with keeping them. Geran showed it makes no difference other than allowing for a mood. I do now lock this topic in favor of keeping themed maps.
