i think he's meaning for on classic not sure. But as far as for SMP sniper's way is best. If you want to make it on classic waffle is one of the best people to talk to about that kind of thing

Ok this is a tricky matter, and it will involve the following: tdoors, gravel/sand, and physics to be on.
First, you should make a wall that is 3 blocks thick so that gravel/sand traveling through it cannot be seen on either side. Now set up the tdoor so that whenever you click the button it opens a hatch on the bottom that flushes out the sand/gravel. You will need 2 buttons, one to close the portcullis( releases a door on the top that drops sand/gravel), and a door that opens the portcullis(opens a door on the bottom to flush the sand/gravel). You will have to refill the sand/gravel every now and then. Also, tdoor seems glitchy and may sometimes disappear, meaning that you will have to replace it. I will try to post pictures of it in the morning. Any questions ask me ^^.

If you are using beta, then simply use pistons :D

Edit: Please read bottom post!!! I have another much simpler way that doesn't need sand or gravel.

Ok here is a quick step by step i created in blockmason (thx ozonez for letting me test it on his map :D )

Step1: Try to recreate this.

Step2: Here is it from a diff angle, notice how i just used /tdoor.

Step3:I placed the tdoos in the gaps above and below the opening in the wall.

Step4: Easy part, I filled in the grass.

Step5: I filled in gravel above the tdoor.

Step6:I now covered up the gravel.

Step7: Now when you click the door_green on the top of the door, it will release the tdoor, allowing the gravel to fall down, like a porticullis.

Step8:Wait a second for all the gravel to fall. This is what it should look like.

Step9:Now press the other button.

Final step: Now, clicking that button will flush the gravel away, opening the door :D. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the gravel each time . But its still pretty cool. You can make this door as big as you want, or you can make it out of sand. I hope this helped!

I made this in blockmason if you want to mess around with it. Just remember to replace the gravel when your done. Also, you're going to have to replace the gravel/sand every time.

Ok after messing around I remembered about odoors. In this situation, odoors can close, then stay closed untill that same button is pressed. It will work perfectly and have no need for a refill.
