A couple of months ago, crafty and I had an interesting conversation about... basically everything. Where did it come from. When will it end. How long will it last. Since then, I have been plagued by thoughts involving everything. When did forever start, and when will forever end. Can forever end? Forever works both ways, forward and backwards. So if forever never started, then forever never began. How is this possible if everything has to start somewhere. Just a thought that I would like to discuss.

That still doesn't really answer the big question. If forever doesn't start or end,
Then what is forever?

a concept. Forever in the future isn't really "there" yet, so doesn't exactly exist, it's open to be changed, or more created since there is nothing to change. Forever in the past really depends on the scale of things since your forever can be where x --> -1 where x < 0 is the past. So the size of your infinity maters. The thing about infinity is that it can't end, there is no start; your "beginning" is any reference point, but there is no true beginning. Forever is always being created as time approaches 0, but even then you can always just add another 0, but that time still passes.

wuuur fun fun fun calculus

But my forever isn't the forever in the big picture. It makes me feel insignificant in the whole matter of time. My life is only a fraction of ten trillion fractions. Maybe the bigger question is why did this all happen. Why do we exist? What is the purpose of living if there is, scientifically, no purpose?

different forum for "the meaning of life" which scientifically, it's just to gain knowledge.

you can't look at the concept of forever, and not look at it in the big picture.
it might be best to learn some of the fundamentals of calculus...

XD. But I still wonder... on a more religious level... I was told not to worry about it because we will all know in the future. But if we arent allowed to solve this kinda stuff... then why were we given the ability to think it?

it's not that we aren't allowed to solve it, it's that we aren't capable of fathoming infinity because we are finite beings.

Forever is represented by 'infinity' wich as numperphile quite correctly points out is an imagenary number. We can not comprehend infinity and thus to the human brain it doesn't exsist, becuase of limitations.

though infinity does exist, all around us, all the time. just it's mostly small infinities that we encounter.

I need a hot chocolate.. ( brainhurt) So in reality, forever isn't an actual "event". Its basically how our minds interpret... the beyond... I guess. But I'm sure its impossible to answer but... what created forever and what created the Creator of forever and so on. When will forever end, if it will end... how can anything end if it never began and even if it began. What was before it?

no. forever is an event. forever can't end because you can always add x to it. there are things that don't have a beginning, all things where you can just add or subtract x from any given y doesn't have a start or end.

you need to look at forever as something aside from time, because it applies to more than just time, and once you understand it with other things you can better understand it with time, since time is a relative thing.
