Seconds into starting 1.9pre you notice something. It starts SUPER laggy. As in a frame every 5 seconds. But it gets faster...and faster....and faster! Notch switched load/save priorities! Chunks now load instantly and save less often! This lessened the lag. There are several new blocks and items.

Nether brick: Dark Red. Ugly! But could be used in themed builds and in art. May be usable in flooring and look good. Also looks like Roof Tiling if you like that type thing.

Nether Fence: RED....REALLY RED. Useless! You want a 2 colored fence?! This. Is. For. You. Get rid of all that useless netherrack and make it into fences!!! First Impression. Meh.

Blaze Rod: Yellow Stick of awsome. Does nothing. Yay. Get it from the Nether I assume. Its pretty o,o.

Ghast Tear: Ghasts now drop tears! The sad big beasts! Totally Useless at the moment. We shall see.

Nether Wart: What? Yes. Ugly. I did say that. Useless warts. Stick em on your face! Stick em on your car! Stick em on Belgeran! actually they look useless. Note: You cant use them on stuff I dont think.

Now to the Mobs!
Noted Increase in Pig Population. I counted 30 pigs while flying at once.
Enderman seeing fixed. Danger-Take note. Ouch.
Magma Cube (Nether Slime)
Blaze (Weird Flying Steve Head Sentries)
NPCs
Snowmen (Place a Pumpkin on two snow blocks)
Mooshrooms
Here is what Jeb said was in it(some not found)
Nether Brick
Nether Brick Fence
Nether Brick Stairs
Nether Wart (flower(?), only plantable on Soul Sand)
Blaze Spawners
Lily Pads (in Swamps)
Gold Nugget (Unlabelled, dropped by Zombie Pigmen, 9 craft into a gold ingot)

New Map Features:

Snow Biomes
Mushroom Biome
Nether Fortresses

Water Color in swamps is grayish.
Grass in swamps is dark green.
Continuous jumping by holding the jump key has been disabled.

Final reaction? All we need now are Nether Trees, then it is habitable...oh wait...only plant is netherwarts...and zombles dont drop what we want D:

Probably a pre release, similar to the 1.8 pre release?

I thought Minecraft was just making the most popular maods part of the game (taking away from the fun of making mods) rather than ripping off Terraria but you may have a piont Zion. :/

And now all that useless junk, the warts and magma cream are used in potions in the new 1.9.3-PreRelease alchemy sets. There are over 390 recipes. 250 are literally useless due to them being too weak and requiring more ingredients. You can also make advanced potions that either make them twice as strong or last longer.

Onlys pots (potions) I know of so far are Strength, Speed, Charisma and Poison. Charisma potions let you make stronger potions with less ingridients! I think.
And it's been Flickr'd by Jeb that putting your alchemy recipie book and potion crafting set by a bookcase will improve the pots. And the effect stacks infinitely, so far. So expect rooms made entirely out of bookcases for alchemy. :D

Oh and Animal Breeding. It no longer causes millions of inbred animal to procreate in a hole, it now gives birth to baby animals which are tiny versions of the animals with * big heads. The baby chickens are not chicks, oddly they are also tiny chickens with bit heads. So far.

They're also adding health pots that act like food use to. Sort of. They drain hunger but add health. Yaaaaaay!
