Over the past few days we, and you, have been noticing a lot of lag. Downloading chunks and general command execution and whatnot takes a log time.

I just been on the phone to Virgin Media, and they say that our internet is currently being capped by 75%. We reached our 7GB bandwidth limit at 7:30pm GMT and it was applied then. The cap lasts 5 hours, and so will expire at 00:30am.

From this we have concluded that the Beta server will no longer be online, due to it limiting everyone on the network, and it keeps everyone lag free.

Do not fret though, we have recently ordered the 100mb service from Virgin which is due to be installed on the 6th of September 2011, which does not have a bandwidth cap, and is 80% faster than our current service, so all going well, the beta server will be back up then. But for the time being, the Beta server will be offline.

During this downtime, I'll be performing a map backup to another drive on the network, just incase the worst happens and we loose everything. During the downtime of the entire network (for the upgrade) I'll be doing a backup of HawkServ too.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and hope to get things back to normal as soon as possible.

So in English that means the beta server will be down for a little while but it will be better after, right?

The Beta server will definitely be back up, as long as virgin manage to sort our internet out when they have said they will. It will be back up in two weeks from tomorrow.

Little update.

Bandwidth caps with Virgin Media are not applied between certain hours. Specifically from 9PM BST (British Summer Time) to 10AM BST. This means that the server will be online between these times. It will be started at 9PM, and will be closed at 10AM, regardless. This keeps everyone happy since the server is still around, and we get a good solid fast internet connection all the time.

Here are the times in your timezone:

• Alaska - 12:00pm - 1:00am
• Los Angeles - 1:00pm - 2:00am
• Chicago - 3:00pm - 4:00am
• New York - 4:00pm - 5:00am
• Dakar - 8:00pm - 9:00am
• London - 9:00pm - 10:00am
• Paris - 10:00pm - 11:00am
• Moscow - 00:00am - 1:00pm
• India - 1:30am - 2:30pm
• China - 4:00am - 5:00pm
• Tokyo - 5:00am - 6:00pm
