SMP has now been updated to 1.6 as most of you know, however due to this my laptop lags so much its impossible to play minecraft. When the server was in 1.5 I had optifine which allowed me to play it with much less lag. Since then my laptop has broken you could say and it wont allow me to download anything new. This means I cant download optifine for 1.6, meaning I lag so much its impossible to play. However in 1.7 they added a feature which makes minecraft run much faster and in 1.8 they said they will improve it even more. So until the server is updated to 1.7 I wont be able to come on, unless I buy a new computer. So cya all.

Windows user by any chance? Could be a virus, I can't think of anything else that would suddenly make your pc stop allowing you to "download anything new". It's been a while since I've had windows, but you might try avast free antivirus. The only other thing I can think of would be to reinstall java.

Also, you might try magic launcher if you aren't using it already, it makes installing mods like optifine much easier.

If you could provide a more detailed description of the problem, someone more knowledgeable might be able to help, but nevertheless, it's been fun and I hope you are able to come back soon.

I had the same problem for a little while, basically, for him (I know this as we chat over Skype) it says every file being downloaded has a virus and was deleted, I think it may be the antivirus program because when my dad installed avast, it seemed to sort itself out

Avast! is what I use, in addition to the server, to protect us against bad files. I would start up your system in safemode and run a nice thorough scan. And if not, start up your system in safemode with Networking, and download your file. :3

And im back! Laptop seems to be running much better now (know idea what I did).
